Our Roadmap

Foundations

Diagnostic and Narrative Strategy

Step 1

We start by understanding where your student is and how we can best position them in college admissions

We get to know your student: what they've accomplished, where they stand, and what genuinely excites them. From there, we develop a narrative strategy that will serve as the foundation for everything that follows, from course selection to extracurriculars to college essays. This is by no means a static narrative, but provides a meaningful starting point to help shape the rest of our work in the program.

Course Selection

Step 2

There is no substitute for strong grades and rigorous coursework

America's highly selective universities do not seek to admit well-rounded students. Instead, they want singularly-talented students. Based on your child's interests, we'll brainstorm ways for your child to stand out in their activities throughout high school because the National Honor Society and Key Club aren't going to cut it.

Extracurricular Planning

Step 3

We help students amplify their extracurricular profile

We want students to authentically explore extracurriculars organically within their school. Based on what they're already involved in, we can help them identify other activities worth pursuing in school. But we also push them to think beyond their immediate high school to identify unique activities that help them stand out in a competitive pool.

Passion Project Development

Step 4

Each student gets paired with an industry mentor to develop a passion project

Once we've identified a strong set of extracurriculars within the school environment, we work with students to enhance their profile through a signature project. They're paired with an industry mentor based on their interests and goals. We pride ourselves on a student-driven process — the project is something the student is truly passionate about and can drive on their own. Our industry mentors provide meaningful coaching to help them achieve a strong outcome.

Bridge

Standardized Testing Strategy

Step 5

We develop a testing plan tailored to your student's goals

We help students understand whether they should take the SAT or ACT, set a realistic timeline, and provide basic resources to get started. When it's the right fit, we can enroll students separately in our SAT prep program for more comprehensive support.

Passion Project Amplification

Step 6

We help students amplify the work they have already done

Summer experiences can meaningfully enhance a student's profile. We help students explore programs that align with their interests and goals, and support them through the application process — giving them multiple opportunities to build on the foundation they've created.

Summer Program Support

Step 7

As students transition into Capstone, we assess their readiness and begin mapping their college journey

We start thinking about what colleges could look like for your student based on all the work completed to date. We assess their readiness, help guide them through initial college visits, and begin laying out what needs to be accomplished via the the Capstone program to ensure a smooth application process.

College Readiness and Exploration

Step 8

As students transition into Capstone, we help students begin exploring college options

Based on all the work done throughout the Bridge program, we evaluate where they stand and start identifying schools that could be a strong fit. We help guide them through meaningful college visits and begin laying out what they'll need to accomplish in the Capstone program to reach their goals on time.

Capstone

Application Strategy and Organization

Step 9

We help you define 'why you' and organize the core components of your college application

We will work with you to refine your overall narrative, and help you stay organized by guiding you through completing your activities list, resume, and securing meaningful letters of recommendation. We also help you understand application deadlines, timeline requirements across schools, and what you need to submit and when — so nothing falls through the cracks.

School Selection

Step 10

We help you build a competitive and balanced school list

A strong school list is critical. We work with you to thoughtfully build out schools where you'll be competitive but also allows you to stretch yourself — balancing reach schools, target schools, and safety schools. We go through multiple revisions with your college counselor to ensure your list reflects schools where you'll genuinely succeed.

Common App Essay

Step 11

Your Common App essay is your chance to tell your story in your voice

You'll receive one-on-one guidance from your college counselor and writing specialists to help you refine your narrative. We guide you through ideation and help you complete multiple drafts, working together until you have an essay that authentically captures who you are and resonates with admissions committees.

Supplemental Essays

Step 12

We help you craft authentic responses to each school's unique prompts

Each school has different supplement questions, and we help you navigate them all. We cover three of the most common supplements in our boot camp, with personalized one-on-one support across your supplements for up to 12 schools through your dedicated one-on-one hours. This ensures every essay feels authentic to you while demonstrating genuine interest in and fit with each college.

Frequently
Asked Questions

When should we start?
The earlier the better. Working with students from 9th grade gives us the most time to shape their narrative to ensure they are truly unique through course selection, activities, and the overall profile. That said, we can still make an impact for juniors and seniors — the nature of our work shifts from building the narrative from the ground up to reshaping and amplifying what they’ve already accomplished.
What's your track record? Where have your students gotten in?
About 85% of our students historically have gotten into a T30 school or one of their top 3 choices. Alumni have been admitted to Stanford, Columbia, UPenn, Michigan, Emory, UNC, UT Austin, Georgia Tech, and many other top programs. Unlike some college counseling companies, we do not push students away from applying to a competitive school simply to pad our stats. That said, we’re transparent when a student’s profile isn’t competitive for a particular set of schools, and we’ll try to find stretch schools that are the right fit and help elevate them to get there.
How many students do you work with per year?
We work with up to 16 students per high school graduating class, ensuring that we are able to provide personalized attention to each of our students.
What GPA or academic profile does my child need to work with Nexio?
We don’t have a minimum GPA cutoff. What matters more is whether a student is motivated and coachable. Our goal is to help students elevate from where they are and reach their full potential. That said, we need to be realistic. If a student’s academic profile doesn’t meet certain standards, we’ll have an honest and open discussion about what our realistic expectations are and what schools will be the right fit for them to succeed at. Not every student is going to be accepted to or thrive at a top thirty university, and our job is to help them find excellent schools where they will.
Can you promise admission?
No — and any consultant who does is misleading you. What we can promise is a rigorous, personalized process: a school list built around your student’s real strengths, essays that represent them authentically, and a strategy that maximizes their chances at every school they apply to. While we have a strong track record, as college admissions becomes more competitive every year, no one can guarantee a specific outcome. That said, with the right preparation, we can put your student in the strongest possible position to compete for admission to a top school.
What locations do you serve?
Most of our clients are based in the New York area and the San Francisco Bay Area, but we work with families across Boston, Raleigh, D.C., Atlanta, Dallas, and beyond. All sessions are virtual, so location isn’t a limitation. When students are looking at universities across the nation, it’s important to have a counselor with nationwide expertise. Local counselors often don’t have enough context across state lines.
